Food Safety & Allergens

At HES Catering, we know that managing medical diets can cause a lot of anxiety for parents. This is why we provide full transparency of the ingredients in every single meal found on our website or provided by your child’s school.

To view your child’s school menu, please use the Primary or Secondary school buttons found at the top right of our website, click ‘Menus’ and search for your child’s school. You will have full access to their daily meals, including the allergens and nutritional profile.

Our kitchen supervisors receive annual Food Allergy Awareness Training enabling them to train their cooks and kitchen assistants so that there is comprehensive understanding of the allergens and potential risks associated with them. The training also covers Natasha’s Law and the specific requirements of food labelling legislation for pre-packed for direct sale items and is accessible to all kitchen staff through the online training package provided by us.

Allergen Information

Our allergen datasheets are designed to help you make an informed decision about the food and drink your child consumes and can be found by searching for your child’s school menu. At the top of every allergen datasheet, we have listed the 14 legislated food allergens: celery, crustaceans, dairy, egg, fish, gluten, lupin, molluscs, mustard, nut, peanut, sesame, soya and sulphites.

We support vegetarian and vegan diets. If your child requires any of these diets and would like a school meal, please ask your school office for an application form and be sure to provide a copy of your child’s medical referral. We will make the necessary arrangements as swiftly as possible ensuring that our catering team, the school and you are always kept informed of progress as we work on tailoring the menu which will be bespoke for your child.

We work in partnership with Kafoodle, an innovative kitchen management solution that helps commercial kitchens with compliance such as food labels, allergens and nutrition. Every kitchen has a full analysis of any allergens contained in the dishes served in each of our schools and is available to view on the Kafoodle app or website.

Schools supplied by HES Catering each receive a unique QR code or URL developed by Kafoodle. Pupils can scan the code of their school with their mobile phone or visit their designated webpage. This will open the Kafoodle app where students can then view live daily school menus, filter options based on special dietary needs or known allergens. These are accompanied by the high street-recognised traffic light labels that highlight daily recommended values for kcals, fat, sugar and salt.
